Jokowi: Treat Troublemakers Firmly!
The soon-to-be President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo (Jokowi), has once again showed his worth. This time, it is in regard to the plan of a number of community organizations to block the inauguration of Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) as the new DKI Jakarta's Governor replacing him. "If the organizations go wild, we'll give them a lesson," Jokowi stated at the City Hall of Jakarta (9/10).
The sentiment for Ahok is not a new thing. Most of cases suggest that it is Ahok's background as a double-minority that drives people to mistrust the Vice Governor of DKI Jakarta, even though some other people regard him as the brave one.
Jokowi couldn't ease his anger after a riot occurred in front of the office of the Parliament of Jakarta, Menteng, last Friday (3/10). The riot was initiated by a fleet of community organizations, including the Islam Protector Front (FPI), Betawi Discussion Forum (FBR), and Betawi Youth Communication Forum (Forkabi). The goal was quite obvious; to refuse the election of Ahok as the new Governor of DKI Jakarta.
The riot resulted a number of victims, including the police officers. 22 protesters were captured, and 21 of them were regarded as suspects, including a religious leader who was believed as the man behind the riot.
